Shirahama Oceanographic Observatory
(Wakayama)
This observatory has a fixed-point tower in the mouse of Tanabe Bay for real-time observation of the oceanographic phenomena. The mobile observations are also carried out using a ship gKaishoh of 12m long, 3.4ton. The mechanisms of wave-tide characteristics, air-sea interaction and river-coast-sea systems are investigated in relation to disaster mitigation and environmental preservation in the coastal area. The hourly meteorological and oceanographic data collected at the tower are updated on the web-page.
Current Research Topics
›Air-Sea Interaction ›Water Exchange in a Semi-enclosed Bay ›Comprehensive Field Study on River Basin Management in Kii Peninsula ›Sediment Transport and Morphodynamics in Rivers, Estuaries and Coastal Areas ›River Habitatology ›Disaster Mitigation for the Nankai Earthquake and Tsunami ›Influences of high waves and sea level rise on coastal morphology
